I Have a Life

It occurred to me that people might think that my life is entirely about adoption because that's all that I blog about.  Almost all of my posts have something to do with adoptions and that's kind of the point of this blog.  I write about it because it's my way of coping.  It helps me to get through and it helps me to know when others are going through similar things.  I also like to flatter myself and think that maybe there's someone out there reading along and I'm helping them to feel better.  I tend to live in my own little world sometimes in case you haven't figured that out yet...

My point is, my life is not all about adoption even if that's what it seems like from this blog.  I've decided to use today's post to explore a little bit of my life outside of adoption.  This in itself is a huge challenge because adoption is a huge part of who I am and affects how I interact with the world around me.  But I digress...

One of my favorite things to do is to read.  I read all the time.  And I read very quickly.  It takes me no time at all to finish a book.  I finished the fifth Harry Potter in three days.  Yes, that's a BIG one.  If I had all the time in the world, I could read and read and read and never grow bored with it.  I have a huge collection of books that I can't fit in my bookshelf, and my new favorite toy is my iPad purely for the fact that I can hold so many more books on that and take them with me anywhere!  I'm starting to read a lot more of the classics and trying to keep my mind active now that I'm out of school with no job.  Fun times.

I also have another fun toy, my Wii.  I think it's the coolest thing ever because it totally relaxes me.  I have a wide range of "games" though a lot of them are exercise related.  I have a bunch of dance work out games and I challenge myself to beat my former high schools in all the dance routines.   Last year I got in shape using my Wii Fit Plus and I'm going to start it up again once I finish unpacking (yes, I'm still unpacking two weeks after I started).  I'm a huge fan of the yoga and strength exercises and I feel so much better after I've exercised.  I'm not really an exercise nut, but I'm determined to get back into shape this summer if it kills me.  Before I went to college I half lived in the dance studio so I was always in good shape.  Once that stopped, my exercise went out the window.  But the good news for me is that it usually doesn't take me too long to get back into shape because I hold I standards for myself.  So that's a goal for the summer.

My other favorite thing to do is read news stories on Google News.  I've been a bit lax lately because I've been trying to unpack (seriously, who unpacks for two weeks and still isn't finished?) but I'm going to jump back into my news articles next week.  I'm a huge junkie now.  I know current events, I'm learning more about the world, and I'm trying to be an educated person.  I get a bit discouraged sometimes, but when that happens I just read up on cool technology stuff and have fun with it.

I have loads of friends that I hang out with (though a majority of them are overseas right now living these amazing lives giving time to others).  I have a wonderful family that keeps me grounded.  I'm a person who is not only adopted, but as normal as I'm going to get!

  1. Sorry if this comes through twice - I left a comment but then am not sure if I actually hit the Post Comment button as I had 3 other tabs up at the same time and may have lost track.

The original comment was just asking if you played any of the Mario games for Wii. If I did send the first comment through, you can just delete this one. :)

  2. I do that all the time... Glad I'm not the only one!

I play Mario Galaxy (working through it before I get 2) and Mario Cart, and all those other fun ones! I'm a huge fan...
