Quotable Wednesdays: Week 2

I had some fun coming up with the quotes this week!  I found a few quotes that I need to keep in mind and some that I'm hoping will help me keep my mind after a stressful month or so.  The following are from Brainy Quotes.

My ideas usually come not at my desk writing but in the midst of living.
-Anais Nin

Expect problems and eat them for breakfast.
-Alfred A. Montapert

The truth is you don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. Life is a crazy ride, and nothing is guaranteed.
-Eminem

The following are from blogs I've read over the last few weeks.  These quotes got me thinking.  I may or may not agree with them 100% but they provided some food for thought.  I encourage you to read the whole post to get the most out of it :

My parents weren't perfect. They were concerned about appearances. They were too critical at times. They didn't always understand me. There was lots of drama in my home as I was growing up. And they had some antiquated ideas about adoption. But through all of that, they were able to help me know that I was not abandoned by my first mother, and that they were not my rescuers. They helped me learn that life is something we have to live the best that we can, making use of the gifts we've been given.
-Megan - Earth Stains

I wonder if the people that crave to read sad stories are hurting on the inside but they put on a happy face and need to read or see something sad to allow the emotions to flow to cry. So, basically, your not really crying cause of a sad thing in the book but the sad thing in the book triggered the emotions that are held inside of you.

Quotable Wednesday: Week 1

I'm starting a series called Quotable Wednesdays.  I don't know if I'll run it every Wednesday, but I'm going to try.  I want to include quotes that have to do with stuff I've been writing about, stuff I've been reading about, and what other bloggers are saying.  The following are from Brainy Quotes.

I don't have expectations. Expectations in your life just lead to giant disappointments.
-Michael Landon

Every man's work, whether it be literature, or music or pictures or architecture or anything else, is always a portrait of himself.
-Samuel Butler

Acceptance and tolerance and forgiveness, those are life-altering lessons.
-Jessica Lange

Another thing I like to do is sit back and take in nature. To look at the birds, listen to their singing, go hiking, camping and jogging and running, walking along the beach, playing games and sometimes being alone with the great outdoors. It's very special to me.
-Larry Wilcox

But if you're asking my opinion, I would argue that a social justice approach should be central to medicine and utilized to be central to public health. This could be very simple: the well should take care of the sick.
-Paul Farmer

Side note: I heard Dr. Farmer speak when I was a freshman in college.  He spoke to my class about his work in the HIV field.  He's a gifted doctor who is doing some great good around the world and defiantly worth learning about.  He's also my birthday buddy :-)
