I changed the names in this blog with a few exceptions (mainly my friends). I did it for a few reasons. First of all, I didn’t ask for permission from NeverTooLate or SinginInTheRain. I don’t think they would love the fact that their dirty laundry so to speak is aired out there. However, it’s my dirty laundry too and it’s my story too and I have the right to share it. But their name’s don’t need to be out there. If they ever find this, they will know it’s them but nobody else has to know.
Next, a lot of people use first initials. I don’t like this because I feel like it makes people seem less like people. Like they don’t have real names. I want NeverTooLate and SinginInTheRain to seem like real people with real thoughts and feelings, because they are real. They are very real and I feel like if I hadn’t been Baby F for all those years to NeverTooLate, then maybe she would have felt like I was more of a person.
Finally, my name was changed. Nobody knows how I got my first name. NeverTooLate and SinginInTheRain didn’t give it to me. I was Baby F. My parents didn’t give me my first name, they changed my name to my current name, the name they wanted for their child. So I guess this is just a bit of a weird power trip for me. I can now change their names and see how they like it. Weird and demented I know, but then again what adoptee isn’t a bit messed up?
Names are important. They are a huge part of who we are. They mean a lot to people. Look at Romeo and Juliet. They died because of a battle of names. Right or wrong, I changed some names, but that’s the only part of this story that isn’t 100% accurate. The rest is all truth. Because really who could make this up?
