A year ago, I wasn't so big on text messaging. I would text my boyfriend, and a few of my friends, but overall, I wasn't really big on texting. I only added it to my plan when I started college because all of my friends were texting me and I was sick of paying the charges for each text message. I have a phone that makes it easy to text because I hate typing stuff out if it's not a full keyboard, but I was never really that into it.
SinginInTheRain in a big texter. He warned me when we started talking that he's like a teenage girl. I didn't really believe him. It's funny, but now when I get a text message during the day I get excited if it's from him. It's like a gift when he texts me. It's rare that he texts me first, but it makes my day when he does. To me, a simple text message shows me that he's thinking about me. It sounds stupid I know, but after 23 years it's nice to know that one of my first parents gives a s***.
There are a few unspoken rules when it comes to texting. First, I can only text him when he's at work. I don't text him after he's left for the day, and I don't text him on his days off. I also have to be careful about what I send him. I don't mention being his daughter. I have nightmares that one of my sisters is going to find SinginInTheRain's phone and think something is going on. It's not that the texts are flirty (he's my father so EW) but they are friendly, and I could see someone reading them the wrong way if they didn't know our relationship.
Good and bad, text messages still make my day. It's amazing to me how technology can have such an effect on my reunion. Maybe someday it will be better for me and SinginInTheRain and I'll be able to text and call him whenever I want. It would be nice...
